Pre-season Friendly Match Report

Steeple Claydon 4-1 Finmere

Great 1st game pre-season lads, Really happy with everyone's game yesterday. It was very hot and we had over 20 players a great turn out. The new players who come into the side fitted in well and all played well. We played a formation yesterday that everyone wasn't used but after the first 20 minutes we really looked good in possession and using the ball in the right way. We weren’t playing it long and played it out from the back very well.

We were by far the better side on the day and created several good chances but just couldn't put the ball away. Finmere went 0-1 up we made a few mistakes in not winning the ball in midfield and then failing to clear a header which then led to the winger who everyone thought he was crossing firing a low shot into the near post. We didn't let that get to us though and everyone responded in the right way.

From here on we defended very well with the back 4 bossing the rest of the game with help from the cdm's. Every time we defended well it gave us back the ball and another chance to build an attack, with several good attacks building it was only a matter of time before we scored. We created many chances but only scored 4 goals, in this game it does not matter as we won 4-1 but really we could have scored 6 or 7.

Good goals from Scott Porter, Matthew Gibbs, Lee Stewart and Dan Chittenden. 4 different scorers, shows you the talent we have going forward, we should score plenty of goals this season.

We dominated in the air all over the pitch from front to back. There was good work from the lads who came off the bench too which gave us better options and stronger squad depth. We had a lot of new players come into the side but you wouldn't have been able to point them out when they were on the pitch. Everyone put in a good shift and I know some were frustrated they didn't get long on the pitch but once you were on the pitch you did what was asked.

Sorry to them lads who didn't get a game with such a large squad for one game and so many young lads coming onto the senior side of the game it was difficult. There were several players who stood out and played very well but man of the match this week goes to John Patterson. Solid throughout, did what was asked and bagged 3 assists. Great 1st game lads we just need to build on this now.

We have Padbury this Wednesday 6.30 kick off can everyone meet there for as close to 6pm as possible.
