A pleasing afternoons showing resulted in a very comfortable 7-2 win over Southwick at The Birchwood Shooting Field.
Despite playing nearly half the match down to ten men after the dismissal of Ryan Timms a few minutes after the break, a very harsh straight red card for a firm ball playing tackle that the referee considered to be dangerous, we pretty much dominated the whole match and were well worthy of the points against a Wickers side who had improved results of late. All truth be told it could have been double figures given the number of chances that went begging, although much of our finishing was excellent on the day.
It was actually Timmsy who got us off the mark on 22 minutes slotting in at close range after a Grant Radmore shot was parried by their keeper.
Two minutes later Ross Myers doubled our advantage neatly side footing high into the Wickers net from the middle of their box. This gave Town some breathing space and allowed them to start playing with some real freedom Half time - Town 2 Southwick 0
Early after the break Radmore broke through from a nice pass from Connor Bull to make it three, just before we lost Timms.
Despite the setback we kept our momentum going, compensating well for their extra man advantage and further goals from Alex Fair, marking his home debut with a neat finish when put through one on one. Sub Alfie Gritt fired home a great left foot strike from the edge of the box. After this, Bacon, also on as a sub, header home powerfully from a great Maher cross and then a close range finish well and truly wrapped up the win.
Wickers indeed had a little rally near the end but both their goals were pretty much their only real scoring chances all afternoon. Both of which were really good finishes.
Yes, an excellent win with just three League games remaining and again it's 'as you were' at the top of the table with Alfold still a point ahead after beating Sidlesham 1-0 but in third place Bexhill are now 4 points behind us after only drawing 1-1 at lowly Midhurst.
And it Bexhill who visit us next Saturday for our final home game of the season and a hugely important match for both sides, so please get down @Birchwood Shooting Field to roar us on as we approach the finish line (KO 3pm). Expecting a real bumper crowd for that one.
