The Lancashire League became part of the Lancashire Combination the following season and Town remained in membership until 1914.

Town entered the Lancashire Senior Cup in their first four seasons, on each occasion having to play in the qualifying rounds. In 1901/02, Earlestown were beaten 2-0, before an epic battle with Wigan United, the tie going to two replays before Town won 3-2. This earned a long trip to Barrow in the First Round Proper, but Town lost 6-1. In 1902/03, there were two draws against Rochdale Town before St. Helens Town scratched, conceding the tie to their opponents. The following season, there were wins over Heywood (3-2), Bacup (5-0) and Bolton Wanderers (1-0 in a replay) before Town went out 1-0 at Southport Central. In 1904/05, Colne were beaten 2-0, but then Town were defeated 2-0 at Earlestown.

After an absence from the Lancashire Senior Cup for four seasons, Town resumed involvement in 1909/10, but whilst neighbours Recs. were to reach the Semi-Final at Everton, Town went out 4-1 at Southport Central in the First Round. Their next foray in this competition was in 1911/12. A home win over Chorley (3-1) was followed by a 7-0 thumping at Burnley. A 5-1 First Round exit at Barrow in 1912/13 (erroneously referred to as a pre-season friendly by me in last Tuesdays article) was followed by a longer run in 1913/14 when, after accounting for Haslingden 5-2 and Everton 1-0, a heavy 6-0 loss at Blackpool marked Towns last ever game in the Senior Cup.
