St Helens Town lost a second consecutive home game this time against league leaders Skelmersdale Town going down 2-0 in a tight battle at CBS Stadium, Ruskin Drive.

Skelmersdale goals from Joe Whittington and Jamie King saw the visitors take all three points.

It could have been so different had Ethan Wetton's effort from a narrow angle gone in instead of striking a post at a crucial point in the first half.

Wetton was awarded the St Helens Borough Food Pantry player of the match award for his swashbuckling performance on the left and was pushed close by Jack Critchlow who was a tower of strength at centre back in a narrowly defeated team.

Town next play Bollington away this Saturday in a 2pm kick off
