St Helens Town return to winning ways at Cheadle Heath

Town hit 5

ST HELENS Town got back to winning ways in this league encounter at Cheadle Heath against a team that had earned a point in the reverse fixture at Ruskin three weeks ago in a titanic 4-4 draw.

This game would be different with Town putting down a marker early through chances for Charlie Simpson and Taylor Prescott as the two wide men looked in good form from the start.

Then on 18 minutes a Dean Curtis cross was rifled home by Liam Diggle to open the scoring and Town never looked back.

A Taylor Prescott penalty on 23 minutes made it two nil and not long after that Liam Diggle got a second goal to continue his good goalscoring run.

On the stroke of half time Prescott would then lay on a fourth for Charlie Simpson and it was more or less game over.

There would be chances for Lewis Bateman and Ryan Cook in the second half but Taylor Prescott was the only scorer in the second stanza when he got the fifth on 55 minutes after a Cook assist.

It was a far cry from the 3-0 defeat the previous week at Stretford Paddock and one major feature of this game was the return of Charlie Middlemore in centre midfield.

He was outstanding as he took the St Helens Borough Food Pantry player of the match award.

It was a case of a job well done and the spirit in the camp is growing by the week as Town chase a second successive promotion.
