Nick Phillip Dunn appointed as first team assistant manager.

St Helens Town have today confirmed the appointment of Nick Phillip-Dunn to Dave Platt’s backroom team. Nick joins the club having previously assisted Dave during his tenure as Reserve Team Manager and returns on the back of a very successful season managing Garswood United in the Cheshire Football League, where they completed the season with a record of played 16, won 12, drew 3 and lost only 1 game.

Nick also led a very positive campaign with the league representative side reaching the quarter final stage, completing memorable wins over the Isle of Man and the Yorkshire Amateur League.

Nick has previously managed near neighbours FC St Helens, having been with the club from inception he took the reins in 2016/17 before leading them to promotion into the Cheshire League Premier Division in 2017/18.

When asked for comment Nick said “I am really excited by this project at St. Helens Town and can’t wait to get to work on turning the club’s fortunes around on the pitch. The results haven’t matched the strong history of the badge for too long now and I fully echo Gary Langley’s comments over the weekend about this being a true sleeping giant. That turnaround is only going to happen by us creating and organised, committed and driven environment in which success will be our ultimate ambition.”

Speaking about the appointment Manager Dave Platt praised Nick’s quality “After a couple of weeks of talking it’s great to get Nick into the set up at the club. We know what we are getting with Nick, a very organised coach whose sessions are of the highest quality. Having worked together before we know we make a good team and what we can expect from each other.

Nick joins Dave Platt Snr and Lewis Bainton to complete the backroom team. "Platt Snr has vast experience in the game and Lewis is a very bright an enthusiastic young coach who will also have the task of managing the reserve team as we build our philosophy of one team, one club. To add Nick into that gives us a great team and the best possible chance of creating the right environment for success.”

The club welcomes the appointment and we are all looking forward to the new season, whenever that may be. Welcome to the club Nick.
