The U7s enjoyed a packed schedule at the St Neots festival

The U7s day began with some worries due to only 7 players available, and also missing their usual coach, but got stuck into their 3 group games regardless.

Match 1- St Neots 5 4 St Ives
After beating the same team at last week’s County Cup the team were hopeful of a repeat, but a close game saw the time run out with St Neots a single try ahead. St Ives took a little time to get back into the swing of things, but plenty of running and a hat-trick of tries from Adam and also one from Oliver kept them in the game.

Match 2 – Newmarket 5 0 St Ives
The match schedule handed St Ives a short break before coming straight back to face the eventual winners, and some tired faces did well to keep running and chasing the tags of what was a very well drilled Newmarket side.

Match 3 – Ely 5 5 St Ives
This time it was Ely who were playing the second of two matches in a row, and some excellent all-round play from St Ives saw them come very close to getting a win. However the tradition this season has been to draw with the Tigers (played 4, drawn 3!) and that’s how it turned out. Another couple of tries from Adam sprinting down the wings, along with well-worked tries from George (2) and Francis.

This meant that St Ives qualified for the semi-final (of the Plate competition).

Plate Semi-Final – Bletchley 4 3 St Ives
Despite most of the team complaining of tiredness, and starting the match by giving Bletchley a couple of easy tries, St Ives fought back in superb fashion, catching some excellent tags and putting in plenty of effort to support their ball-carrier on each play to take a 3-2 lead in the second half with some high-speed tries from Adam and Oliver. However a couple of turnovers after strict (but fair) refereeing decisions gave Bletchley the chance to take the lead again, which they did right on the final whistle.

Alongside the try-scorers already mentioned, Ellie-Ann, Catherine and Thomas all put in great performances, with everyone showing good team spirit throughout the day.
