Experience wins the day as Ives play the full 80

Admittedly a second hand version of events, which will contain errors and undoubtedly be corrected by somebody who was actually there. However, such was the buzz at the chicken shack on the return of the travelling heroes that posterity requires a record.
Ives travelled to Rushden in a late arranged fixture with just a team. The spirit with which the game was approached was typified by Richard Miller. When enquiring as to the venue to spectate, he was told, “Bring your boots”, and played the full 80 minutes.
The back three was populated by what sounded like an 80s super-group – West, Ford and Frear (they being Nags, Chris and Andy). And given their ages, could have been. The pivot was birthday celebrant Jim Robinson, rolling back the years with a fine performance.
Alex Henly was attempting to regain some semblance of fitness trotting around in the centre having returned from his far eastern adventures this week. He needed a mid-match rest having react with poor grace to getting his face in the way of an opposition fist (the opponent seeing red for his troubles), but is welcome home nonetheless.
The front row of Craig Cheetham, Rob Olivier and Pete Hammond was ably supported by Kris Wright and Pat Grant. So much so that your scribe heard that a scrum involving only these five was still capable of pushing the hosts back. Or was that the beer talking?
Olivier was heralded as MoM, not just for his set piece prowess, but his indefatigable performance around the park, including two try saving tackles after hot pursuits.
Ben West, the under 17s hooker, found himself at number 8 and thence 9 following a knock to scrum half Rob Carrington. The lad is growing up to learn that ubiquity gets one a game every week.
As far as I understand it, the lead changed hands several times, and both sides scored six tries. Fortunately, it wasn’t just Jim that told me that his unerring boot was the difference, come full time. Indeed, CCOTS was gracious enough to award two of his 22 point haul to Ford, the latter having teed the ball up in the gale on two occasions. But, then, he had declined to put Ford in for a certain try and decided to muscle over himself…..
Apparently, scorers were:
Tries: Carrington (2), Henly, Olivier, Robinson (2)
Conversions: Robinson (6)
