Ives' comeback with last play of the game

With decent weather conditions the St.Ives second team welcomed March Bears to the Chicken Shack, having not beaten today’s opponents since 2011, the squad knew they had to play at their best to get a result.
Winning the toss, skipper Thomas Riches opted to play up the hill first, with March having the opportunity straight away to run the ball back, both teams equalled each other out until fine work by the Ives pack produced good ball allowing Michael Drake to unleash the backs, good hands created a 2 on 1 in the corner which Rick Peters dotted down in the corner, Michael Drake unlucky not to get the full 7 points available.
March responded well and battered the Bulls defence before a penalty was awarded, the visitors taking the opportunity to get on the score board with 3 points. With their tails up, March kept hold of the ball, now deep inside the St.Ives 22, with strong carries from the pack finally breaking the St.Ives defence, March scored their first try of the game, along with a good conversion.
Not content with just scoring March were soon on the attack, their pack once again going through the phases with good support lines, rewarded with another try, and no mistake from the tee.
With half time fast approaching the Bulls were giving March a taste of their own medicine, with strong carries from the forwards, Michael Sykes & Christian Williams gaining territory, the ball made its way out to the backs for Pete Fa-hey to put in some nice foot work to gain some space before throwing a dummy, the defender sold, Pete dived down in the corner, Drake again unlucky with the difficult conversion.

Half Time 10-17

The second half kicked off, both teams knowing that the game was far from over, emotions were running high, and discipline was starting to slip. The referee, having already spoken to both captains about high tackles, lost patience and sent one of the Bulls players for a ten minute rest, not before doing the same to a Bears player for his own reactions. March awarded the penalty for the original high tackle, stretching their lead by 3 points.
A large section of the game was played out with end to end rugby, both teams showing good skill sets only for an error to creep in the final third. The St.Ives pack were demonstrating great set piece at both scrum and line out, Ash Palmer securing good ball from his own line out as well, and stealing a couple of the oppositions, St.Ives now found themselves within 10 meters of the Bears try line, a solid scrum saw Michael Sykes pick up from the base and dive over in the corner. A superb conversion was slotted right in the corner by Drake to bring the game within 3 points.
With the last 10 minutes starting to tick by the Bulls dug deep, good runs from Sam Vivers & Tom Shiels were causing March a lot of trouble, but seemed to always exit well, kicking deep either into Rick Peters or Pete Faheys channels, both running the ball back, edging into the oppositions half. St.Ives had a line out just inside the bears half, the back line set ready to launch one final attack, Albiee instructing his full back Pete to only kick “if he had to” when the ball reached Pete, following good hands he decided he had no choice, the ball was launched deep towards the Bears winger, unfortunately for him, he misjudged the bounce giving Albiee the chance to pounce, timing his run to perfection the ball popped up into his arms before diving for the corner, the full back unable to stop him. Jubilation was felt through the whole St.Ives team, the celebrations elapsing the time allowed to complete the conversion, with the clock already red the referee brought an end to the game, luckily the option of a further 2 points were not necessary.
A brilliant result for the second team, rewarded for showing great character and a strong desire to win.
