A classic game of two halves and one that the score line does not reflect on how close the game was.
Playing down the slight slope with a breeze behind in the first half St Ives forwards made the statement that this was going to be there day by camping in the ON’s half of the pitch. With ON’s defending valiantly in their own 22 they kept the score nil nil for 23 minutes. But the pressure told and with the forwards sucking in defenders the ball was spread wide and Jake Hill joining the line from full back went over to score. Conversion missed.
For the rest of the half the ON’s backs threatened to break through but were kept at bay and the half ended with the St Ives try the only score.
The second half was a repeat of the first by way of St Ives having territory and possession but the ON’s star backs finally got their act together and with a fast winger being given a lot of ball by the centre and full back (and an interception try run in from their own 10 metre line) meant St Ives were punished in a 15 minute period.
St Ives continued to press right up to the final whistle but could not add to the score line and ON’s ended up worthy winners.
