St. Ives 5 v 1 Newmarket
Newmarket started the game, but Zac was able to steal the ball and feed Thomas who sauntered over. Newmarket were then hit again with some neat passing between Zac, Thomas and Charlie, with the ball then being passed back to Thomas for the second. Tommy McCarthy then sparkled as he danced through the defence and with Eamon on hand, he timed the pass to perfection for the simplest of scores. Newmarket didn’t know what had hit them, but they fought back and drove forwards, but the solid defence of Charlie and a double hit by Harry and Tommy kept them at bay. The end of the half came with Newmarket pressing but the defence was equal and held them up. HT: 3 – 0
Cullan was able to drive over straight from the restart, to put the game beyond Newmarket, but they did keep playing and came back at St. Ives. It was Cullan, again, who was able to rip the ball clear and ease the pressure. A series of penalties against Newmarket enabled St. Ives to move easily upfield. Zac was the next scorer as he charged for the line, and broke clear of the tackle to touch down in the corner. With the end of the game looming, some lacklustre defending presented the chance for Newmarket to get on the scoresheet.
