Mary's Ladies Put 10 tries Past Hornettes

Hornettes could only travel with 13 players so the game had to be played 12-a-side. Mary's however were expecting this due to Hornettes struggling to put a full side out every week and to prepare for this game they palyed a 12-a-side friendly against Ivel Barbarians 2 week prior to the game.

The game also had to be uncontested which seemed to suit Hornettes more due to the amount of knock-ons the home team produced ensuring ball was won on their scrums.

Mary's started brightly with number 8, Katie Sully scoring her 1st of five tries in the opening minutes as she powered down the wing before moments later breaking through tackles to go through and score under the posts which winger Abbie Gould converted to claim her 1st points for Mary's in just her 2nd game.

Centre Esther Gasa then extended their lead with a nice line of running, played in by fly half Lucy Bowering, and broke through the Hornettes defence to score under the posts. Abbie Gould hit the post with the conversion attempt. Katie Sully scored the final try an her 3rd of the half which Lisa McCormick, playing in the forwards for the first time at prop, successfully converted to go into the break with a comfortable 24-0 lead.

Mary's continued their dominance in the 2nd half utilising the power and pace they had to score a further 6 tries including Katie Sully with another 2. Esther Gasa scored her 2nd of the game but injured her ribs in the process which saw powerful centre Laura Rugman come into the action and get herself 2 tries and 3 conversions. Hornettes never gave up and scored 2 tries of their own but Mary's sealed the victory with final play of the game which saw centre Amber Daum score under the posts after a well worked move from a scrum.
