Hard fought midweek away point at an impressive Lakeside Athletic with us twice taking the lead with goals from 2 of our impressive youngsters Ed Green (18) and Spencer Hartill (17).

A long trip to Plymouth on a Wednesday evening after work didn't deter us from putting out a competitive squad for what we knew would be a tough game against the 2nd placed team in the league. With 6 of last season's treble winning team still out through injury and unavailability, we are delighted that the youngsters we have been able to bring in have performed brilliantly this season so far.

Lakeside started well and put us under pressure but as the half developed we created the majority of clear cut chances and on another day we could have been out of sight by half time. The only goal of the 1st half came on the half hour after Ashley Richards had been hauled down in the box, young Ed Green stepped up and slotted home calmly from the spot for 1-0 (his 3rd penalty of the season).

Half time: Lakeside Athletic 0 - 1 St Minver 1sts

Lakeside came out buzzing in the 2nd half and almost immediately earned themselves the chance to equalise. A quality ball forwards released the attacker who turned Dayll Beesley and who was then unfortunate for the players heels to clip him as they ran in on goal and he went to ground and the ref awarded the penalty. The Lakeside player stepped up but Ryan Holland made a great save to keep the score at 1-0.

Just when we thought our luck was in another through ball resulted in a slip at the back and the Lakeside player was free and finished well to equalise for 1-1.

Lakeside really dominated the remainder of the game but we still looked dangerous on the break and on 75 minutes we broke on Lakeside and young Spencer Hartill beat the keeper to the ball and lobbed him very well for 2-1. Could we hold on to our lead this time?

The answer was unfortunately no, as almost immediately Lakeside broke down their right wing and after a quality cutback the ball was stroked home for 2-2.

Both teams pushed for the win in the last 10 minutes but we were glad for the final whistle and in the end happy with 1 very valuable away point. Certainly a game of 2 halves where a draw was a fair result in the end.

A great battling performance from the lads on a soft pitch against a very good side. One game soon a team will find us on a day when we convert the majority of the chances we create and then it should be very enjoyable to watch.

Best wishes to Brad and his team for the rest of their season and we look forward to welcoming them back to Trewint Lane in November.

This Saturday we return to Trewint Lane for a home league game versus Mevagissey with a 14:30 kick off.
