Cracking return to football after a 5 week break finds St Minver in stunning form in local derby against battling St Teath.

Following a long break since our last time out away at Newquay on 14th October we returned to action today with a short journey to our friends at St Teath. The home side were looking to gain revenge for our recent 3-2 victory when they were unlucky not to go home with a point.

One of the benefits of the long break has been the recovery time for some key players with long term injuries. We were delighted to welcome back Dayll Beesley in to the starting lineup and Corey Cleave back to the bench. Ex St Teath player Ted Meagor is on the verge of his return too after missing most of the season so far. We also welcomed club favourite Chris Andrews between the sticks as Ryan Holland was away on holiday.

So how would we perform after such a long break?

We it didn't take long to find out. We started off on fire with Dayll Beesley and Steve Wootton forming a new central midfield partnership and their complimentary strengths really benefitted us. 6 minutes in and Steve Wootton finished off a smart attacking move as he cut onto his right foot outside the box and found the bottom corner for 1-0.

On 22 minutes we made it 2-0 as classy ball over the top by Dayll Beesley found Callum Wilson cutting in on the right and his shot was saved leaving Paul Menhinick to continue his goalscoring form to tap home the rebound.

On 33 minutes St Teath made it 2-1 after a ball to the back post was nodded home by Adam Cudmore, who had drifted forward from centre back and was not picked up.

Dayll Beesley then scored a screamer on his return on 35 minutes as he picked up the ball in centre midfield and hit it from 30 yards and it struck the bar and rebound in off the keepers back for 3-1.

We then went 4-1 up on 42 minutes after a driven cross from the left by Steve Wootton was headed home clinically in to the top bin by Paul Menhinick.

Once again when we should have been out of site, St Teath kept the game alive with another goal as Darren Burden found himself unmarked in the box and swivelled and finished well for 4-2 on 45 minutes.

Just before half time (45+3) we made it 5-2 as Steve Wootton provided his 2nd assist feeding young Spencer Hartill who got beyond his defender and finished well.

Half time: St Teath 2 - 5 St Minver 1sts

In to the 2nd half and 8 minutes in and Paul Menhinick is bundled over in the box and Ryan Pooley smashed the penalty home in to the top right corner for 6-2.

On 77th minute St Teath were gifted their third of the game as a mishit clearance fell for Carl Croft who chipped in very well from 30 yards.

On 86 minutes a Steve Wootton corner met the head of substitute Gyles Reynolds with a cracking header for 7-3 and Woots bags a hat-trick of assists. A great way to top off a great team performance.

Full time: St Teath 3 - 7 St Minver 1sts

A great returning performance with our squad almost back to full strength, which all bodes well as we rise to 2nd in the table and line ourselves up to push on for the remainder of the season.
