What a great start to our season in the Duchy Premier League beating an always strong Torpoint side 7-1.

So after 2 months pre-season preparation, an awesome looking pitch which has been worked on all summer by the players, here we were ready to kick off our season in the Duchy Premier League.

Over the summer we were delighted to have introduced some great new players and with some of the younger 2nd team players rising to the challenge, we are very excited by what this season will hold for us.

So to kick off at home against a normally very strong Torpoint side would be a great test for us.

The players were ready and from kick off we competed very very well. Things were fairly until on 15 minutes Callum Wilson broke down the right, knocked the ball around the keeper but was brought down. The ref signalled a pen and up stepped Steve Wootton to take on the responsibility. Unfortunately his kick was well saved by their keeper making amends.

Our heads could have gone down, but not to worry, we continued to feed balls through and over their defence and again Callum got himself free inside their box and was tripped for our 2nd penalty.

Sam Cleave this time took on the responsibility and calmly stroked home the penalty for our 1st goal in the Duchy Premier League and we lead 1-0 on 20 minutes.

We continued to dominate and once again Callum got himself free in the box and cheekily lobbed the ball over the onrushing keeper for 2-0 on 25 minutes.

On 35 minutes Callum was set free again inside the right of their box and finished well nicking the ball over the keeper for 3-0.

A Ben Beesley free kick on 40 minutes found an unmarked debutant Eddie George in the box and he powered home his header for 4-0. Let the team celebrations commence (see photos for plenty of bromance celebrations!)

Right on half time the ref obviously felt it was time to even up the penalty count as Torpoint midfielder chipped teh ball in to the box and followed his pass, which Dan Witts headed away under pressure from same player who then through himself to the ground and the ref somehow awarded a penalty.

Half time and we were 4-1 up! What a start to our season.

We chatted about a few things we wanted to adjust slightly, but mainly the message was "continue as is".

We were expecting Torpoint to come out strongly aiming to score the next goal and then have us doubting ourselves. None of the sort, we carried on where we had left off dominating play in all areas of the pitch. Callum's pace was terrifying their defence, Robbie Green's none stop work supplemented by the maurading runs down the right from Daniel Cox meant their left had side were being terrorised. In the middle newcomer Ted Meagor and Ben Beesley bossed the midfield battles, at the back Dan Witts and Dayll Beesley were totally dominant and didn't let their strikers have a sniff. Sam Cleave on the left was tireless up and back with Steve Wootton playing beautifully with his cultured left foot. In the middle Eddie George played off the striker and worked tirelessly. Chris Andrews in goal had very little to do with everyone in front of him so dominant.

On 55 minutes were started the 2nd half goal scoring rush when Steve Wootton got his rewards for a great performance to make it 5-1.

Then on 60 minutes Callum Wilson once again broke free down the right and as he approached the keeper he could have easily taken on the shot but instead intelligently rolled the ball to his left where Eddie George was free to tap home for his 2nd and to put us 6-1 up.

The 7th and final goal on 70 minutes probably summed the game up for both sides. Callum Wilson broke down their left and was somehow allowed to run to the bye-line and then cut inside and finish well inside the near post for a very well deserved hat-trick.

All 5 of our substitutes were given good run outs in the 2nd half with all impressing in a comprehensive team performance to give us a great start to the season.

The tempo of the game dropped understandably in the last quarter but what a great performance to kick off our season. So many positives we really look forward to a very exciting season.
