A purple patch of play saw St. Neots go 3-0 up only 15 minutes and was ultimately too much for Long Sutton despite a valiant effort in the second half

An incredible passage of play in the first half ensured St. Neots got their second win of the season and climb to 4th in the table. Saints were majestic and completely outplayed Long Sutton early on, and for a change were extremely clinical in front of goal. Darren Coles scored from Saints' first penalty corner, after a rebounded shot was collected by Brett Nunn and swiftly distributed to Coles who chipped the ball over the logged keeper. Shortly after this, St. Neots had a second; a fantastic team move initiated by Nathan Read and Owen Edwards down the left wing quickly tore apart the Long Sutton defence. Nunn and Bradley Forsdick continued the move with a slick one-two in the 'D', beating the out rushing keeper before Forsdick slipped the ball into the empty goal.

Saints had their third (within the opening 15 minutes) when a miscued shot from Forsdick, which was going wide, was neatly deflected in by Nunn who was waiting eagerly by the far post. Whilst no more goals were scored that half, Saints looked dominant and looked like they would score at any moment. Long Sutton did apply some pressure though and even had a drag flick on goal from a penalty corner heading goal-bound. Fortunately for Saints, David Humphrey deflected the ball from danger to maintain their 3 goal advantage going into the half time break.

Long Sutton went for broke straight away in the second half, and it almost paid off too. Sutton quickly brought the game to within one score after scoring two quick goals from penalty corners. Saints looked rattled and needed to regain composure quickly. Rhys Edwards helped Saints do just that, making crucial tackle time and time again to stop any more threatening attacks from the Long Sutton forwards. Rob Morris also played his part, making several crucial saves in goal.

Despite pressure from both teams, a couple of heated exchanges between both sets of players, and a golden two-on-one opportunity blown by Daniel Sutton, there were no more goals in the game and Saints finished the game as victors.

St. Neots now sit pretty in fourth place in the league and only one point behind 3rd. However the coveted promotion places seam a bit of a stretch away as both Cambridge South and Ely City remain firmly in the top spots with a 5 wins from 5!

Next week Saints travel to local derby opponents St. Ives who will be looking to bounce back from an 8-0 drumming to Cambridge South.
