Despite poor playing conditions, St. Neots came away with a monumental 3-2 victory to maintain the push for promotion.

After the long trip to Horncastle, St. Neots were less than impressed by the quality of the playing surface that greeted them. The lines weren't visible, meaning they had to be repainted before the game; the goals were rusty and worn down; and the playing surface was muddier than a rugby field in midwinter. Overall these conditions made it hard to run and even harder to turn.

Nonetheless, Saints put in a phenomenal performance to ensure victory. With all 5 goals of the game being scored in the first half, it made for a particularly entertaining start. Goals from Garth Mooney, Darren Coles and Brett Nunn put St. Neots 3-0 ahead. St. Neots appeared to be cruising to victory.

However the tables turned and soon Horncastle started applying pressure of their own. Fortunately for St. Neots, goalkeeper Rob Morris was on top form and made numerous vital saves to keeper Saints in front. Whilst Horncastle did score twice, Saints remained resolute in defence from then on.

The second half wasn't without incident however. Saints maintained a large percentage of the possession however couldn't finish off any chances. Horncastle won several penalty corners but the Saints defence held firm. Again, Morris came to the rescue on several occasions to maintain the Saints' lead and ensure an important away victory.

Saints are home next game against top-of-the-table and undefeated Ely City after they beat fellow title contenders Cambridge South. St. Neots will have to be on top form to get a result against a very strong side.
