Despite being on top for most of the game, St.Neots M1s can only manage a 2-2 draw against Cambridge City Vets after conceding late equaliser.

St. Neots were hopeful to start 2016 with a bang despite lacking a suitable amount of training time after the Christmas festivities. Their rustiness was apparent early on as many wayward passes regularly stopped any chance of Saints building momentum. In fact it was due to Saints turning over the ball in midfield which lead to them conceding the first goal of the game after 15 minutes. Fortunately, Darren Coles was able to bring Saints level from a cracking strike at a penalty corner to equalise. Bradley Forsdick did his best to impersonate a lumberjack on steroids and was given his marching orders for repeated stick tackles.

On the stroke after half time, City could've taken the lead from a penalty stroke thanks to a reckless professional foul by Wes Cole. On song goalkeeper Rob Morris made sure to redeem his teammate, making a tremendous diving save - his second penalty stroke save of the season (and both at crucial stages of the match).

Saints came out of the half time break with fire in their bellies and soon made several great moves down both flanks. Owen Edwards was instrumental in midfield and made a significant contribution to the team after being subbed on. In fact it was thanks to Edwards that Saints took the lead. A piecing ball from David Humphrey in his own 'D' rocketed to Brett Nunn deep into City's half. Nunn linked up with Coles before Coles slipped the ball across the area to Edwards who slotted home into an empty net. Jaws dropped on the sideline at the pace and clinicalness of what they had seen.

Humphrey and his fellow defenders Wes Cole and Rhys Edwards did their best to hold on to the one goal lead and survived countless counter-attacks from Cambridge City. Somehow, however, City luckily won a penalty corner. Despite an initial save from keeper Morris, City gathered the rebound and bundled the ball into the goal to score a late equaliser and come away with an undeserved draw.

Saints will need to improve dramatically next week as they take on Bourne Deeping away.
