St. Neots M1s finish the season in style as they hammer Louth 8-2 with Daniel Sutton scoring a classy hat-trick.

St. Neots took no prisoners against Louth on Saturday. Despite Louth creating the early chances and applying early pressure, it was St. Neots who scored first; Garth Mooney slapped the ball into the bottom-right corner from a well executed penalty corner routine. Saints had their second after Adam Maltby intercepted the ball on the halfway line and tore past 5 Louth players before slipping to Daniel Sutton who swept the ball into the open goal. Shortly after this, Owen Edwards surprised everyone with a rocket of a shot from the very edge of the circle which flew in to the top corner. Louth would then score the first of their two goals after Jamie Cluer gave the ball away to the opposition forward on the 23m line; the Louth striker then ran into the circle and flicked the ball past goalkeeper Charlie Allen.

Although not being at their best, Saints took a 3-1 advantage into half time. St. Neots played much better in the second half and were rewarded with 5 goals for their efforts. David Humphrey and Daniel Sutton both scored at penalty corners (the latter scoring his second of the day with a deft deflection from a wayward shot). Sutton completed his hat-trick by deflecting a shot that would have hit the keeper straight on the pads but instead went through his legs. Saints had a seventh after David Humphrey took a self-pass quickly and then threaded a pass to Phil Johns who finished clinically from a difficult angle. Garth Mooney finished off proceedings with the final touch of the game; after a penalty corner had broken down, Mooney found himself at a near impossible angle but still managed to slap the ball towards goal and beat the defender at the near post.

Daniel Sutton was awarded Man of the Match for the first time in a Saints shirt for his excellent hat-trick and constant high work rate. Saturday was possibly Saints' finest display of the season, and if they pick up from this point when the new season begins in September, Saints could push for a promotion spot.
