September hosted a few friendlies for our representative teams, including the first official game for our new U14s, who beat Knowsley 6-2. At the back end of the month, we also kicked off our national cup campaigns across 3 age groups, facing two big city teams.
Facing a city side is a tough ask for our district, with only 16 schools to pick from and the other sides having near to double what we have to pick from. In years gone, this has been our biggest challenge. However, the grit and desire of our sides showed as we walked away with two wins and a draw.
At U13s saw our biggest achievement, as we faced current holders of the national cup, Manchester SFA. With additions made to both sides, the biggest change has been the additional of Sim to our strike force; who was a Manchester national champion last season. He, along with other new faces made the difference as we overturned the loss last season to run out 3-2 winners. Sim bagging a brace and Watson sealing the other goal. This puts the group in a good position with last season's plate champions, Sefton, still to come.
At U14s, the boys recorded a 2-2 draw away at Leeds, in a game which they can take many positives away from the performance. The boys controlled possession in large phases of the match and has chances to win the game; however lessons to be learned for future games as the team missed out on all 3 points. Goals came from Captain, Berry, and a nicely taken finish from Deasy.
Still in Leeds, the U15s opened their season with the same fixture as last year and were in for a tough game. Early goals from Likaj, who also bagged a brace, helped the team forward, but Leeds showed great signs of staying in the game. However with Pimlott grabbing the other goal, the lads took all 3 points back home to Stockport in a resilient and mature performance.
