2019 Season Closes with Defeats...

The 1st XI finished their season with a disappointing display at home to Wolvercote last week. Batting first with an 'experimental' end-of-season batting order, the lads could only set 89 all out, Sean Holley top scoring with 21. The Wolves knocked the runs off in just 13.4 overs for a 9 wicket win. Stonesfield finished a respectable 6th in Division 1, but it could have been higher..

The 2nd XI travelled to Stanton Harcourt for a battle to determine who would finish 2nd in Div 7 North - but finished distinctly 2nd best! Stoney reduced the home side to 92/6 thanks mainly to some inspired catching in the outfield from Skidmore, Stew Moss (2), Josh Davies & Mike Phipps. But the long & powerful Stanton batting line up recovered to set 197/7, and outstanding outswing bowling from Kane Lewis (5/15) blew away our top order as we limped to 90 all out. The 2nds finished a creditable 3rd in the Division, the best finish for 12 years, but it could have been top!

Our final match of the 2019 season saw an inexperienced Sunday XI travel to Apperley CC near Cheltenham, but with only 10 players after some late drop outs! On a terrific batting wicket and fast outfield, the home side set 254/6 from 40 overs - but this featured some super bowling spells from Scott Thomas (1/29), Rowan Moss (1/24), George Worsley (1/36) and Josh Davies (2/73). U13 Billy Worsley also bowled beautifully, and was unfortunate not to take his first senior wicket.
After a sensational tea, we ended the campaign with a tired batting performance, managing just 86/9 from 32 overs. Paul 'Jacko' Jackson rolled back the years with the top score of 29, which included one terrific pull for 6 over midwicket.

Thank you to all those that made the effort to turn out for the ground party on Sunday to put the square & ground to bed for the Winter, in particular Mark Hatton.
