Two wins this weekend!

The club enjoyed a superb weekend with two great wins, only spoiled by the U15s losing a good game on Monday evening.

On Saturday the 1st XI hosted Faringdon and batting first, were struggling a bit at 33/2 from 20 overs! But Sean Holley produced a vintage knock of 96 with a mix of solid defence and big shots, and with support from Gubbins (14) and Townsend (11) they recovered to set 161. The final 20 overs yielded lots of runs with some fine batting including a ramped 4 by Sean! In response Faringdon were soon in all sorts of trouble to the opening burst from Litten & Hibberd, aided by 2 wonderful catches behind the wicket by George Redknap. But the bowler of the day was Dan Farrant, his outswing mesmerising the batsmen as he took 5 for 20 and we ended up cruising to a 60 run win.

On Sunday the 2nd XI travelled to Combe for a 'home' Osberton Cup tie against OCA newcomers Chinnor CC. The tricky so Stew duly won the toss and inserted the opposition - the right call, as they were soon in all sorts of trouble at 10 for 2 from 10 overs - as Ro Moss and Dan Taylor gave nothing away! The star was young Mikey Franklin with 5 for 18 - mixing unplayable jaffas with poor balls down the leg side as the ball swung prodigiously! Only Chinnor's Aussie all-rounder McKay prevented complete carnage with 32no, as spinners Thomas and Skidmore mopped up the tail for 62 all out.

S Moss & Liddell opened and soon had the score to 31 before Stew was caught in the covers. Grist-Perkins made a rapid 13 before also being caught, but Anthony Liddell cruised to 35no as Stoney cantered to victory in just 15 overs. This sets up a QF tie at home to Middleton Cheney 2nd in June.

On Monday the U15 team travelled to picturesque Great Rissington for their 2nd league game in the sun. Losing the toss on a superb wicket, George Worsley and Tris Stringer opened the bowling and kept things tight, Tristan taking the 1st wicket. Rowan Moss came on and bowling with pace and bounce, hit the no3 batsman's middle pole for 28/2. But from there on Rissi dominated with a partnership of around 70 before Bell retired 51no. A few catches went down as the innings ended at 114/2.

The Stoney innings started badly when Fred Holloway was bowled for 1 run by the opposition's excellent left arm spinner. Debutant Alex Bishop then went first ball, but Rowan counter-attacked and had made 18 with 2 boundaries until he was unluckily caught from what would have been a wide ball at 32/3. Josh Davies made a solid and patient 17 holding the middle order together, and aided by a flurry of extras the score reached 72/4 when Noah Drew was caught for 8. But Rissi strangled the scoring rate in the last 5 overs and Stonesfield were short at 92/6 from their 20 overs. Another decent performance but falling just short for a second week running.
