Stowmarket won a bruising encounter against South Woodham Ferrers in wild conditions. With the wind howling across the pitch both sides had difficulty spreading the ball wide. Stowmarket started the stronger and on four minutes Tom Crowe powered over. SWF replied with a penalty but then succumbed to a Stowmarket forward drive with Matt Edison touching down. SWF came out for the second half fired up, but Stowmarket’s defence held firm driving their opponents back in the tackle on several occasions. However, SWF were not to be denied and following a penalty kick to touch drove a lineout maul to score an unconverted try. Moments later Stowmarket on attack dropped the ball. SWF’s hacked through and won the race to touch down to score a try (converted) under the posts.
Finding themselves behind Stowmarket responded well as their forwards began to dominate. Luke Keatley finished off several short drives, Matt Edison scored from a lineout drive and James Simpson completed the scoring after team handling that defied the weather conditions.
