Game 1: Stowmarket 6 - 0 Harwich.

Like last week, Stowmarket started strongly in this game, which was pleasing, and they continued to
play well throughout this game, good straight runs from the bigger boys and offloads to support runners
lead to some very well worked trys. The defensive line was also good and put pressure on Harwich to
force them backwards on several occasions. Harwich also had a couple of strong runners so to stop
them scoring was also very pleasing.

Try scorers: Zed, Ethan, Oscar, William, Toby, Harry.

Strong runners: Zed, Franklin, Oscar, Tyler, Harry, Toby

Top tacklers: Zed, Toby, Harry, Oscar, Ethan

Game 2: Stowmarket 1 - 3 Southwold.

We knew that this game would be harder than the first game having played them the previous week at
Ipswich. Southwold are well organised and have several players that are good in the tackle, ruck &
maul. Both teams started well and the first half was quite even; it was 1-1 at half time but in the second
half too many Stowmarket players got ‘drawn in’ to the rucks & mauls and the defensive line
disappeared. Southwold moved the ball wide at the right times and had some strong runners in the
backs to capitalise. The final result perhaps flattered Southwold slightly but Stow need to learn to work
harder to keep their shape in defence so that players are in place to make tackles.

Try scorer: Zed.

Strong runners: Oscar, Tyler, Toby, Harry, Zed

Top tacklers: Toby, Zed, Ethan, William

Game 3: Southwold 5 - 1 Harwich.

The larger Southwold squad continued their good work in the previous game, competed for the ball
well at the breakdowns and distributed it well to strong wide runners. The smaller Harwich squad
started to tire.

Harwich try scorer: Brad.

Overall the games were exciting to watch and well-contested, with many positives.
Areas for improvement include holding positions and not all getting ‘drawn-in’ to the breakdowns and
passing the ball out wide in attack once the space has been created.
Also, we have to keep thinking during the game about trying different ways to get around the different
teams defences.
