Stow 12 Reading Abbey 24

STOW 12 READING ABBEY 24
Another very frustrating game for Stow, once again they had the opportunities and could have won this game but for some basic errors. A good platform upfront gave some quality ball and with a strong wind at their backs things looked good early on when JAMES HOLMES broke several tackles to score close to the posts, try unconverted. More pressure from Stow resulted in two missed chances, a clear overlap on the right was ignored and the attack was thwarted then with an easy two on one available the penultimate pass was poor and resulted in a knock on. Abbey used their forwards well in the loose with an effective pick and drive game which eventually resulted in their first try in the far corner. Soon after they took the lead, again the forwards set it up by retaining possession and driving over, both tries not converted. Score at the break 10 -5. Stow were very much still in the game but needed to control the ball as much as they could against the strong wind. Unfortunately mid way through the second half the home side fell off several tackles which let Abbey score close to the posts leaving a simple conversion. Stow needed to score and try and get something out of the game, a good take in the lineout secured the ball and straight running and passing sent the ball to the wing for ARCHIE HAYWARD to score, Jake Collett converted. Stow needed another score or not to concede to take something from the game but again some poor defense allowed the visitors in for their bonus point try. The final few minutes saw Stow push but to no avail. On the positive side there were some very good phases of play but some poor decision making when in scoring opportunities cost points.
Next week they travel to Slough.
