AYLESBURY 31 STOW 29
A visit to Aylesbury for so many years has proved fruitless but Stow came so close to taking the honours in a very entertaining game that could have gone their way. In dry conditions and with a light breeze behind them Stow started well and scored in the opening few minutes when TED HOLMES crashed through the centers to score under the posts, Dan Adams converted. Aylesbury hit back immediately, they went blind from a lineout and scored in the corner, conversion added. Stow conceded a penalty which was kicked to the corner, the resulting lineout was secured and driven over for a converted try. Stow responded and pushed the home side back into their own 22 where JAMES HOLMES stole possession and scored in the corner with Dan Adams converting. With all square Stow seized the initiative, a lovely crossfield kick from Gus Hayward found Archie Hayward who scored by the corner flag.
Unfortunately Stow were slow to start the second half, a failed clearance was run back and for the first time in the match the Stow defence faltered allowing an easy run in under the posts, try converted. Dan Adams kicked a penalty to keep Stow in touch which was quickly cancelled out with an Aylesbury one. With the final quarter to go it was still anyone’s game, the home side struck first when the Stow defence missed some tackles to gift Aylesbury a try which was converted. The last few minutes saw Stow keep up the pressure and they were deservedly rewarded when a neat kick thorough was collected by Will Marks which secured Stow’s try bonus point, Adams converted. Time ran out but Stow did go away with 2 points.
No game next week before Stow entertain Bicester on the 6th April.
