STOW 0 WALLINGFORD 8
In truly awful conditions both sides managed to play some good rugby but the result was always going to be a tight one. Most of the game was played between the 22 meter lines with both sides having good periods of possession. Try scoring chances were going to be very difficult to create with the forwards keeping the ball tight. Wallingford missed a penalty then some good Stow defence kept the visitors at bay. Just before the break Stow then had period of pressure in Wallingford’s 22 but couldn’t score.
The second half saw Stow miss a penalty and the stalemate continue and with time running out it looked like a draw was on the cards which would have been a pretty fair result. However Stow conceded a penalty under the posts when a Wallingford player slipped but the Stow tackler was penalised for a high tackle, the penalty was kicked. Stow then had a couple of great chances down the right flank but both were not taken. Then with the last play of the game Stow fumbled possession close to their line with Wallingford gratefully taking the chance to score, conversion missed and the final whistle blown leaving Stow with nothing to show for the day.
The Stow side put in a great shift and deserved a lot more from the game but sometimes it just doesn’t go your way.
Next week a very hard game with a trip to league leaders Witney, KO 2.30 pm, all support welcome.
