SENIOR PLAYERS SELECTION GUIDELINES - 2012
Players are asked to confirm availability after games on a Saturday. They should confirm this to the Captain.
Selection will take place on Tuesday. Selection will be chaired by the Chairman of the Playing Committee. In attendance will be the first team coaches, first team manager (Fairy) second team manager (when appointed) and captains of the relevant teams.
There will be a full review of availability of all players and a discussion of selection. Where possible a consensus will be agreed as to selection. If, at the end of the day, consensus cannot be agreed, then the captain of the relevant team shall have the final say.
Any players who have been dropped from the 1st team will be contacted on Tuesday evening by the Captain and informed of the selection decision. An initial explanation of the reason why the player has been dropped will be given at that stage (if possible) but the 1st team coach will speak to the player face-to-face at Tuesday and/or Thursday training to explain the decision.
Players dropped from the 1st XV are expected to make themselves available to either bench or play for the 2nd XV.
The selections for all teams will go up on the Teamer website on Wednesday. We will start this in the new year. All selected players will receive a text to which they need to confirm yes or no as to availability. This is the same system that we used last season. I will update Teamer asap and make sure that everyone has access to it. It is a very simple system.
At Thursday training (after the warm-up) the Club Captain will again run through the starting team for the 1st XV for Saturday and, in the event that enough players are there, the 2nd XV Captain will do the same.
If a player is on the bench for a game, then - all thigs being equal - they will start for either the 1sts or 2nds the following week.
If we are to get selection right and the procedures that follow it satisfactory to everyone, then the selection committee needs to be able to focus primarily on this issue, rather than having to spend their time chasing up players to find out whether they are available. It doesn't take two seconds simply to let people know whether you can or can't play and collectively it will make the whole thing a lot easier.
