Strathmore U18s 14 v Kirkcaldy 25

Strathmore U18s recorded their best performance so far this season pushing a strong Kirkcaldy side all the way to the final whistle in this Midlands Division 1 league game under lights on Friday evening at Forfar.
Playing with a number of players out of position, Strathmore started the game very well with a number of useful attacks putting pressure on the Kirkcaldy line on a few occasions. With some forwards playing in the backs – the Strathmore team were full of competitiveness which eventually resulted in a try for Struan Robertson playing in his first full game as scrum half due to call offs. The try was converted by Mark McQueen.
Kirkcaldy came back into the game as the first half progressed with their No 8 in particular showing up well scoring well worked tries.

Strathmore played well throughout the second half moving the ball on three occasions from their own 22 to set up strong attacking positions – however, lack of composure meant that the line wasn’t crossed as often as it could have been. The constant pressure on the Kirkcaldy line eventually told when Fergus Mitchell stormed over from his centre position for a cracking try – Mark McQueen again converted from well out. Kirkcaldy scored again from Strathmore mistakes which created a pressure last 10 minutes with Kirkcaldy hanging on with the help of a well taken penalty kick.
