AND ITS BEEN TOUGH

Sudbury travelled to West London for their final match in the first half of the season but were unable to finish with a win.
Sudbury kicked off into a strong headwind and light drizzle and immediately went on the offence, within seconds they had secured a scrum and pushed the home side back, they retained possession through several phases of play working ever nearer the home line. For six minutes Sudbury pressurised the line but the first time O.P’s touched the ball the right winger ran the length of the pitch to score against the run of play. With ball in hand Priorians looked dangerous, testing the Sudbury defence and had soon scored again from a lineout in the Sudbury twenty two and a move out to the backs. Priorians were able to create space and seemed to be able to run round our defence at will scoring a third try with another backs move with less than fifteen minutes on the clock.
Three early tries put Sudbury under pressure but they regrouped and tightened their game. When they did get close to the Priorians red zone the hosts gave away penalties in an effort to keep the blues at bay, eventually conceding a penalty try and a yellow card for killing the ball.
The game slowed from the frantic start and the Sudbury pack were working hard to retain possession and for the last ten minutes of the half had some success but failed to break the defence.
Priorians finished the half with a fourth try when Sudbury were awarded a scrum on their own five metre line which Priorians took and crashed over the line to score with no time to restart.
For the second half Sudbury had the benefit of the strong wind and used it to advantage by kicking deep forcing OP’s to run back out of their half. Sudbury secured a scrum midway in the Priorian half and pushed them back to the twenty two with the home side pack unable to cope with the drive. The ensuing penalty was kicked by Tom Summers and Sudbury were getting back in the game it seemed. Two more penalties were kicked as Sudbury enjoyed territorial advantage and with the OP’s forwards struggling perhaps Sudbury should have opted for scums as they were always close to a penalty try situation.
The final quarter saw the home side rally again and although Sudbury defended manfully, another try from the Priorians backs as the centre ran in from close range secured the win.
At the half way point Sudbury lie tenth in the league having beaten all the teams below them and lost to all those above.
