Rochford Hundred
Sat 26 Jan 14:00 - London & SE Division - London 1 North Full time

Sudbury travelled to Rochford on Saturday and was beaten by a display of slick, professional rugby. It is easy to see why the home side have so far remained undefeated in their league campaign this season but Sudbury never gave up and were unlucky not to get a try bonus point, squandering four try scoring opportunities slip as they tripped over their own feet or dropped the ball when after they had broken the Rochford defence.
Rochford kicked off and retained possession putting Sudbury under immediate pressure, an early Rochford scrum was held by the blues and they cleared their lines but a second wave crossed the Sudbury line but knocked the ball on. Sudbury took their own five scrum and kicked for relief only for the Rochford 15 to catch and run in to score with only four minutes played.
Sudbury then made their first attacking move of the game, Rochford had a man sent to the bin and Sudbury crossed the line, only to knock on. Another good move by the Sudbury backs got Harry Maile over with ten minutes played. Rochford replied immediately to extend the lead but Sudbury were still making progress when they kept ball in hand but it was the home side that were controlling the game with their organised approach running some good lines.
The bonus point try came within the half hour and the score had reached forty five –five by half time.
Sudbury had a much better second half getting more possession and more territorial advantage.
Sudbury started well attacking the opposition from the off only to trip over just short of an undefended try line. A second positive move was run out past the dead ball line within five minutes of the restart but it was the home side that put the first points on the board as the prop ran in from the twenty two. Sam Maile grabbed a loose ball on the twenty two to sprint in for Sudbury and then Sudbury squandered another scoring chance when they dropped the ball in clear space.
Paul Chaplin would have got his name on the score sheet with a blistering run but was felled by a clothes line tackle just short of the line which resulted in a penalty try but no yellow card.
Rochford were not looking as composed in the second half but knew they had the game won and finished with a final try. Sudbury attacked in time added on in a final effort for the bonus point try but it was not to be. A good effort by Sudbury against by far the best side in the division but not an unexpected result.
