Sutton Exit FA Cup After Spirited Performance

Sutton Athletic’s FA Cup journey came to an end today after a 2-1 defeat at home to Isthmian League opposition Ashford United

The Sutts were looking to build on their excellent unbeaten start to the season with a potential giant killing at home to step 4 opposition

Ashford set up in their usual 4132 formation with the front 2 pressing the Sutts centre backs

Sutton had the best of the 1st half beating the press and dominating possession

It took till the 41st minute for Ashford to take
The lead against the run of play. An under hit back pass caused issues in the Sutton box and Adam Ramaden capitalised to beat Joe Hyde in the Sutts goal. 0-1

The home side hit back 2 minutes later when Ijah Currie-Wilson latched on to a very cleaver reverse pass by Conor Evans and lifted the ball over the stranded Ashford keeper.

HT 1-1

Ashford changed their shape to 3142 and went more direct than the first half. They had Sutton pinned in their own half for most of the 2nd half.

The Sutts counter attacked at times and looked like they could score a famous winner.

The Ashford dominance paid off with 5 minutes to go as Mamadou Diallo capitalised on a 2nd ball from a half cleared corner to make it 1-2

It finished 2-1 to Ashford United who go forward into Mondays cup draw.
