Welling Town 1-3 Sutton Athletic

The Sutts continued their good run of away form with a 3-1 win away at Welling Town.

We dominated possession from the start without creating a large number of chances.

The hosts went ahead through a Sam Bailey free kick on 39 minutes. The shot was fired into the top corner.

HT 1-0

We began the 2nd half similar to the 1st. Keeping the ball well and stretching the welling back line.

Three minutes after the restart and defender Richard Gregory made a run into the box and had time to turn and shoot us level 1-1

Eight minutes later and we were ahead.Neil Spencer dispossessed the Boots midfielder, passed it to Billy Muckle whose slide-rule pass found the run of Kola Salami who shrugged off 2 defenders and slotted the ball through the keepers legs and into the net 1-2

As the rain began to pour Welling Town poured forward looking to equalise. 6 successive corners were repelled by a resolute Sutts defence.

Substitute “Landi” Kurti was unmarked in the box and was on the end of a Conor Evans cross. Landi cooly took the ball round the defender and flicked it in the goal from the outside of his right boot to wrap up the points in injury time.

MOTM - A tough one as it was a game where everyone performed well. It has to be Richard Gregory. Defended resolutely and scored a goal many strikers would be proud of.
