Sutton went into this game on the back of 2 defeats and included 3 new players. Marcel Simpson, Scott Rickards and the returning Harry Harris all started as Chris Keoghs side looked to get back to winning ways.
Sutton started well and created a number of openings but it was Coalville who went closest when Chris Gumery laid the ball back for the skipper Camm to fire his shot against the foot of the post. Not long after David Bevan in the Sutton goal made a fantastic triple save to deny Coalville the lead.
The game turned in the 40th minute when the returning Harry Harris was harshly sent off for an alleged elbow. This seemed to spark the Royals into life and on the stroke of half time Dean Rathbone broke forward and then slotted the ball into the far corner to give the 10 men a goal advantage going in at the break.
The second half saw Coalville huff and puff without ever really troubling Bevan in the Sutton goal and the back 4 stood firm to restrict Coalville to long range efforts. As the game went on the 10 men were picking off Coalville on the break and it was no surprise when Matt Dodd broke away in the 82nd minute to score and put the game beyond Coalville.
Assistant Manager Neil Tooth spoke after the game, " I dont think anyone here today could say we didnt deserve to win that game as even with 10 men I thought we were the better side. We all feared the worst when H got sent off and its one of those some refs see it as a straight red and some see it as a yellow. But lets be honest the standard of refereeing was again poor for both teams so it was no surprise when he sent him off. To get the first goal on the stroke of half time was massive as it gave us something to defend. We told the lads at half time to be patient and we would get them on the break and thats what happened. The back 4 were superb today and Bev pulled of some great saves first half and it gives you a massive boost when you see your defenders putting everything on the line. We now go into another huge game against the Roms on Monday and we all know what to expect when ever we play them. If our lads continue to show the character they did today we will start picking up more wins to get us back up towards the top of the league."
