PUDDLETOWN 0pts SWANAGE & WAREHAM 48pts
Swanage & Wareham visited Puddletown in Dorset/Wilts South last Saturday and on a muddy pitch with rain falling it was going to be a game set up for the forwards.
However, after a couple of penalties to each side, it was Swans who had the first meaningful attack and after 8 minutes from a scrum the ball was worked down the blind side and winger Harry Spyers was first onto the scoreboard. As expected most of the play was amongst the forwards, with Puddletown making some good tackles preventing Swans from extending their lead. It was not until the 32nd minute that from a scrum on the hosts 5 metre line that Puddletown collapsed, that Swans received a Penalty Try (0pts – 12pts). Swans continued to attack and from a maul flank forward Marcus Seaton powered his way over the try line two minutes from the interval.(0pts – 17pts) at the break.
Swans now had the advantage of the wind at their backs, and 5 minutes into the half, centre Matt Roberts worked his way over the line for a fine individual try. Steve Wooley added the extras(0pts – 24 pts). The hosts were under sustained pressure from Swans and after 57 minutes, once again Marcus Seaton was on hand to score his second try of the afternoon(0pts – 29pts).Swans were on top now and from a 5 metres scrum the ball was sent to Steve Woolley who scored close to the posts after 65 minutes. He added the extras(0pts – 36pts). Swans continued to press the Puddletown forwards and from a scrum under the posts Swans 2nd row Luke Smith scored his first try for Swans after 72 minutes Woolley converted(0pts – 43pts). In the last minute of the game the ball found its way to flank forward Kirk Jones who ran from the half way line to score a try out wide. Woolley hit the bar from the conversion attempt so that the final score was Puddletown 0pts Swanage & Wareham 48pts.
