SWINDON COLLEGE OLD BOYS 16pts SWANAGE & WAREHAM 7pts.
Swans travelled to Swindon College Old Boys last Saturday and after a brilliant start succumbed in the end to the hosts.
From the kick off Swans managed to get into the COB’s 22 and after a three quarters move the ball was moved to Swans loose forward Matt Roberts to go over the try line after 4 minutes. Fly half Steve Woolley converted giving Swans a 0pts – 7pts lead. Eight minutes later COB were in the Swans 22 and another penalty by Swans had COB fly half converting 3pts – 7pts. The game became niggadly and when ever there was a breakdown in play the referee awarded a penalty, usually against Swans. After 25 minutes a penalty to COB resulted in a line out on Swans 5 metres line and COB forced their way over the line.(8pts – 7pts.) Just before the break another penalty to COB was landed making the half time score COB 11pts – Swans 7pts.
The second half was evenly contested with Swans giving away too many penalties, but both defences were on top. When COB had the ball it was difficult for Swans to retrieve the ball and it was no surprise that after 58 minutes COB went in for a try in the corner. The conversion was missed 16pts – 7pts.
Swans had a few chances to reduce the arrears but the only clear cut chance was 5 minute from the end as Steve Woolley missed a penalty chance to give Swans a losing bonus point, and in the final minute Joe Desmond was denied a try going into touch as he dived over in the corner. Final score Swindon COB 16pts Swanage & Wareham 7pts.
