Great team performance against top of the league

Tough match but Tadcaster faced up well to the challenge
Tadcaster took Pudsey by surprise with Fiona passing to Ailsa, who picked it up well and pushed on towards the Pudsey goal followed by a nice pass out to Helena who won an early short corner. Fiona passed it out to Kathy who took a good strike but unfortunately it was saved.
Play swapped quickly to the other end, Pudsey sent in a high flying ball and a difficult bounce which fell in Pudsey’s favour meant they took an early lead. 1-0 to Pudsey.
Pudsey continued to drive towards the Tadcaster goal but Jen kept her cool and made some diving saves. Tadcaster put good pieces of play together with some nice one, twos between the players, keeping procession and moving the ball round well.
We had a few chances but half time it was 1-0 to Pudsey.
Pudsey came out a little stronger in the second half but our defence didn’t falter with Sarah J staying strong in the centre and Caroline and Jane keeping the Pudsey wingers marked well.
Tadcaster got back into it and started passing the ball round well again. Becky and Fiona intercepted the ball well and fed it through to Eve and Helena out wide. Ailsa also had some good pickups at centre forward. Fiona won the ball passed to Eve who drove the ball down the right wing and into the D, releasing it nice and early with a good cross to Helena who finished it off with great goal.
It was 1-1 and all to play for.
Pudsey weren’t to be beater and continued to push towards the Tadcaster goal. We put in some great marking and defending, with good shadowing skills and jab tackles.
We won a few short corners in a row and tried some good variations and shots on goal but the Pudsey goalie had them covered and cleared the ball. Tadcaster continued to look for goal and Tania had a good chance but the goalie saved it.
Played turned round quickly and Pudsey were driving for goal, unfortunately they won a short corner from an obstruction. We stopped the initial shot but the ball was still loose and it was the Pudsey player that picked it up near the far post and despite a good effort by Caroline to try and stop it, it was a goal. Pudsey were 2-1 up.
There was only a few minutes left to play and both teams continued to play well and look for another goal but it finished 2-1 to Pudsey, which is a shame as Tadcaster had played very well against the top of the league opposition.
Man of the match was a draw this week. Some good performances by everyone but the youngest got the votes with Eve and Helena sharing man of the match for fantastic running and drive and a great goal for Helena. Well done girls.
