After last week’s loss Tadley were eager to get going but the pre match warm up made things difficult due to the wet and muddy conditions. It was difficult to stay warm, stay focused and keep the momentum going. After a 15 minute delay in starting Tadley was able get back on track and get focus on the match ahead.
Harrison kicked-off for Tadley, Andover Reds received and surged forward but only to fumble. Tadley cleaned up and created a forward surge by Charlie, Tadley grew in confidence from this surge and dominated the opening 5 minutes. Tadley conceded a scrum to Andover due to a knock on, they won the ball and moved forward to form a ruck. Tadley forwards were there on mass to steal the ball and set the backs up for a pass to Connor who ran 20 metres to score under the posts. (5-0)
Tadley continued to hold their own in the next 5 minutes, showing great tackling from Archie, a great forward run by Josh Knowles and inter play between scrum half Dom and fly half Harrison. The conditions were bad at this point but the spirit was there and there were several great instances of tackling as the team spirit grew. Connor did another crackling tackle which shown the opposition we meant business. However due to a loose ball not tidied up by Tadley, Andover took advantage of a failed tackle by Connor to run through and score. (5-5)
Tadley came back strong and did not let up on the pressure they were putting on Andover. Tadley took advantage of an awarded scrum for Dom to start an attack by our backs to our winger Ethan who was able run the remaining distance to score under the posts (10-5).
Tadley took immediate advantage from the restart and were coping well with the conditions by keeping the passes short. Pressure within their 22 led to a pushover try by Chris, excellent support by the forwards. (15-5).
Andover applied pressure in our half and owned the next few minutes of the game, but once again Tadley shone through, a nice pickup and swift passing through our backs led to Ethan scoring his second try after running, down the line from just outside our 22. (20-5)
Once again Andover applied pressure from the restart but Tadley were able to hold off until half time by showing Great Spirit and some moments of inspirational play, Ben pulling off a fantastic pick up and Josh Knowles doing an excellent rip out to keep the ball alive on each occasion. (HT 20-5)
Second half got under with immediate pressure form Andover but Tadley held their own once again with a cracking tackle from Charlie, a great run from Dom but not too no avail as Ethan failed to get the ball to hand. However Tadley continued to dominate the play leading to a pushover try by Josh Knowles due to great support play and team work. (25-5)
After restart Tadley continued to surge forward leading to an excellent surge forward by Ben Potter, with forward support and great play by Dom leading to a pushover try with the help of his forwards. Excellent support and tidy play. (30-5)
Straight from the restart Andover were under pressure and Josh Knowles was able to intercept one of their loose passes to score his second try of the day. (35-5). Two quick further tries followed, one by Archie (40-5) after a flow of short sharp passes through several players and to close the game a surge down the line by Dom, a pass to Charlie who passed to Connor who went over for the final points of the game. (45-5).
Every one of the Tadley Team played their part in today’s win and the Cheshire cat grins at the end said it all.
