The Under 13's travelled to Bracknell where we took on their U13s. The match was played as 3 x 20 minute thirds to give both squads plenty of game time. The first third started with Bracknell playing their strongest set of players and fielded a very large pack. However the smaller Tadley front row wasn't going to be intimidated and with the help of the rest of the pack quickly began to dominate the scrums and the rucks. This in turn gave the backs space and it wasn't long before the first try was scored. With the pack now in control of the forwards battle, the backs turned up the pressure and the team managed to keep Bracknell more or less in their own half for the rest of the third. With the pressure, came more tries and Tadley won the first twenty minutes 20-5.
Bracknell are dangerous when they are behind and true to form, came out fighting in the second twenty. Both teams had made changes and this time the Bracknell pack started to get the upper hand and this in turn put us on the back foot and it wasn't long before Bracknell had a healthy lead. Determined not to let lead slip away from the first twenty, Tadley fought back hard and got two tries on the board to stay in touch but couldn't do enough to win the second twenty which went to Bracknell 20-10. Honours shared but all to play for.
Both teams had worked hard and were getting tired but the smaller more mobile Tadley pack had enough in the tank to once again get the upper hand and started to look for gaps in the Bracknell defence and as the game wore on started to look more and more dangerous with some great hard straight running from some of the more experienced forwards which again opened up the space and had Bracknell on the back foot. Although Bracknell fought back hard the pressure and teamwork from Tadley soon had both the backs and forwards scoring tries and we ran out 20-0 winners of the final third making Tadley overall winners at 50-25 (aggregate score.)
Well done to Josh W who made his debut in the forwards and made a great contribution in the final twenty backed up with some great support from Aidan, his fellow second row. Meanwhile Odhinn was causing Bracknell all sorts of problems with some great running in the backs. Not to be outdone, Teddy put some great tackles in on the wing and Will put in the bravest tackle of the match. Overall it was yet another great TEAM performance from The Tadley U13's
