The weather this morning didn't bode well for the style of rugby the Tigers U13s love to play; with strong winds and heavy rain looking to play a major part in the match. As it transpired the conditions eased throughout the morning but that didn't stop the Tigers from coming out of the blocks with real pace and intensity, taking the game by the scruff from the first whistle.
In fact the score was already 20-0 before the Drifters had time to take stock such was the pace at which we moved the balls around the pitch; spreading it across the pitch and really stretching their defence.
Unfortunately, due to an oversight by the referee (sorry!!) we had too many players on the pitch for some of the first period, so a lot of the good work was undone as we conceded the tries we had scored in the spirit of sportsmanship.
Credit to the boys, this did not affect them in any way and they continued to work hard in all facets of the game. Our scrum was solid and we competed well at the breakdown, although we will work hard on making sure our forwards are in the right places on the pitch to allow them to be at the ruck and maul.
Again our backs spread the ball well and we scored some outstanding tries, one of which took us the whole length of the pitch with inter-passing between payers a joy to watch.
Onwards to our first cup match of the season next Sunday @ Andover!
