Sarries home ground having work done largely thanks to the parkway social club

Over the coming weeks, the rugby pitch at the Parkway will be having essential works done in order to improve the quality and durability for next season and hopefully many more season to come.

So what, who and how is it being paid for you ask.....

The work is being carried out by WT and RJ Jones who are an RFU affiliated company. The plan is 'To Mole Plough the playing surface at approx 1-metre centres to a depth of 300mm - 500mm'
After this will then be 'To deep line aerate - Verti-drain' and to 'Overseed with BLEC closed space Disc Seeder'
We are also being supplied 'Limagrain Action Replay grass seed mixture'

Now that might not mean a lot to some but in essence, the idea is it will improve the state of the soil by increasing air content, root growth and helps to incorporate fertiliser and top dressing.
This is a 5-year fix and will help the soil and grass to become more effective at absorbing the water. Going on from there the club will be looking to go further and put in place a proper drainage system.

The cost is gonna be around £2000. Devon RFU are contributing to the aeration which consists of 3 sessions through the season. The club is paying for one round at a cost of £300 and Devon RFU will pay for the other 2. The rest of the funding is being sorted by the Parkway and a massive thanks to Chris Carwithen (Director of the Parkway) for this.

The pitch will be out for around a week whilst it is Mole Ploughed and Aeriated. Then reseeded.

This is a great benefit to the club and will help us all in the coming seasons and more importantly will be provided at little to no cost to the club and zero cost to us as players. So let's make sure we make the most of it, appreciate and it and show our appreciation by playing hard and thanking the committee and the Parkway.
