1XI League Champions

1XI League Champions

Freddie Cheshire4 Sep 2025 - 11:08

The only way is up...

On Saturday, the 1XI took hosted local neighbours, and 2nd placed, Barrow CC to The Flacca. The equation for the 1XI was 17 points from 3 games to become Champions, a few less points to be sure of 2nd place, but its all about being top of the tree!

The forecast was far from ideal but more play was achieved than first envisaged. After being invited to bat first the hosts put on a healthy score of 285/7 with a first, and well deserved, TCC Century for Corey Bovey (123*) with some useful starts elsewhere and a quickfire cameo from Adrian Waddelove (42*) at the end. Advantage Tattenhall.

As soon as the innings finished, the heavens opened and covers were on. The forecast suggested it was set in for the day. After lunch it brightened up, but remained damp and windy. That said, the umpires got play back underway with only 5 overs lost - the new target for the opponents being 270 from 45 overs. The bowlers started well in the drizzle and windy conditions, except the first over which went for 15, with regular wickets leaving the opposition 70/6 around the 20 over mark - early wickets for Mobbs and Waddelove, the latter taking the key wicket of the Barrow overseas. After 20 overs had been bowled, this constituted a game which left TCC in complete control. The game slowly petered out until victory came courtesy of a catch from man of the hour Bovey. Cheshire, Spraggs & Evans picked up the remaining wickets and it soon started to rain champagne at The Flacca.

This victory, and the season as a whole, marks a great occasion for not only the 1XI but the club in its entirety . This marks a return to Division 2 for the first time since 2019 and more importantly a league title - the first in 23 years!

A credit to the players and one to be enjoyed.

Looking ahead, the 1XI travel to Runcorn before hosting Hale Barns on the last game of the season. It is expected for a trophy presentation to take place on the 13th and then some (a lot of) celebrations afterwards.

The 2XI have won 4/5 in August and are looking to finish off the season in style, with a win at home this weekend v Bollington, which hopefully will secure safety in the Division. Support at The Flacca is welcomed and encouraged.
