Tavistock RFC finished a successful season by retaining the RNEC Cup. After finishing Mid-Table in the Devon/Cornwall league the young team beat Plymouth side Tamar Saracens 19-14 in a closely fought game at Devonport RFC.
Tavistock started the stronger team and a quick counter attack by the back line saw Jack Glover, Rob Pratt, and George Hilson countered from their own half before the chip and chase was finished by Fly Half Ed Nettleship.
Tavistock maintained their first half pressure as new signing Jake Crabb finished off a dominant 5 minutes from the Moorlander scrum with a try converted by George Hilson to make the half time score. 12-0.
Tamar however resurgent after the break kept the pressure deep in the Tavvy 22 and after numerous penalties the referee gave in and awarded the Tamar team a penalty try.
The game was close with both teams exerting pressure and conceding penalties. However Nettleship intercept and finish under the posts converted by Hilson saw Tavvy with a 19-7 lead with 10 mins to go.
Tamar Saracens would not give up hope and with the time ticking. The Plymouth team tested the Mighty Moorlanders defence. However it took until the last play of the game until Saracens gained their second try. The final score 19-14 to Tavvy.
