Tournament season has really begun and what better way to get going then with the all time Swans favourite – Summer Social.

This year we managed to put out a record 3 teams, read more to find out how we got on...

The As take on The Open
With teams such as Surrey Storm and Loughborough Uni competing for the Open title we had resigned ourselves to the fact that we probably weren’t going to win...however not ones to be discouraged we set out to do ourselves and George proud. We started off well, delivering a hard fought win over Cumberland and went into the match against Fruity A full of confidence. It was close throughout however eventually the flying interceptions from Amanda Newton of ex-England fame led to a narrow defeat. Next up were Capital Nuns and their red ribbons, not wanting to be outdone on court or in the fashion stakes we delivered our best performance of the day – winning 17-4. Our final pool match was against the Bristol Barbarians and a well deserved draw meant that we finished 2nd in the group, narrowly missing out on the semi finals.

The Bs beast The Social

The Mighty Beasts were ready to carry on where they left off and swept all those in their pool aside with relative ease; leaving Soy wishing they’d stuck to the sauce; NUNC dreaming they had stayed in Newcastle; Old Actonians feeling their age; Gleeds Wasps without their sting and Lavender Park Panthers licking their wounds. The Beasts cemented their place at the top once again and a place in the Semi Finals vs City Storm was guaranteed. It was a tense and closely fought battle with some interesting tactics from the opposition but despite a late rally, it was not to be and the Bs lost out to eventual winners of the Social. Another great performance from the King and her loyal subjects.

The Cs get Ultra Social
Some would argue that our Cs are already ‘Ultra Social’ (especially their Captain, Annie Hall) and so it was with great pleasure that The Cs set out to add the Ultra Social Cup to the already impressive Swans trophy cabinet. The somewhat anti-social timings meant that our Cs didn’t kick off until almost 4pm however that didn’t dampen their spirits. Three fantastic wins (including one against great rivals Old As, a narrow defeat by just one goal to the eventual victors and a nail-biting draw in the final match meant that the Cs just missed topping the table. Instead finished a highly respectable second which rounded off a great day of netball for all three squads.

All of this netball fun was of course celebrated well into the night with George garnering much attention, both male, female and avian. It was safe to say there were a few sore heads the following morning.

Next stop on the Swans Tournament Tour is Wimbledon Charity Sevens on the 11th June. Let’s hope George manages to clean his act up by then.
