Swans crowned second place Champions of Wimbledon!

A tin of beans and a bottle of champagne were the main take outs from the previous year’s Wimbledon Charity 7s, after Swans were pipped by the charm of Karisma in the finals. This year however, headed by our feathered friend George, the Swans were quietly confident in achieving an improved result this year.

The group stages saw some impressive displays across the court, with the light-hearted mood seeing shots sunk and defensive interceptions coming from all players. At the end of the group stages, Swans waddled in to the second half of the competition, qualifying in second position and clocking up 4 out of 5 wins against some stiff competition.

Full from the protein rich bbq, the clouds above had also had their fill, and the heavens opened for the latter stages of the competition. After taking a stab at the Guinness world record for most netballers and their belongings under 2 small umbrellas, Swans returned to the court to battle it out against Bank of England for a place in the semi finals. With some strong hits and persevering paddling, Swans took a convincing victory to claim a place in the next round. “ENERGY” became the team brief of the day.

Unfortunately the team met their match against Lavender Park in the finals, and although held firm for the first 7 minutes with only a 2 goal difference at half time, the tactical changes sadly didn’t pay off in the second half and Lavender Park won by a convincing margin in the end.

Despite the result, Swans had yet again proven that a mixed team could cut it with the rest, and we walked away with this year's consolation prizes of a dodgy bottle of red and a very pungent, odd smelling candle. Not bad for a day out, and even George managed to stay dry!
