Stevo played a significant part in developing the club to what it is today. He was involved in the ground development that included building the changing rooms, updating the stand, the fencing and the development of the clubhouse, all key parts allowing us to play on the National League System.
He had held post as a Player, Committee Member, Vice-Chairman prior to us going to a Limited By Guarantee and represented the club on Committee's for the running of the Teversal Grange Sports & Social Complex, which meant attending meetings with other users and Ashfield District Council as Trustees, something he represented our club with pride and vigour.
But the loss of Stevo leaves us all with a hole in our hearts and wondering what more we could have done to help him, with his son Stevie capturing everyone's feeling on a Facebook post on Tuesday;
"As many of you already know, last night my Dad Steven Hayes sadly passed away. I never knew it was possible to feel such sadness. Grief is a truly horrendous feeling, something I’d obviously always underestimated. For those of you who know him, or are close to me you’re already aware he was suffering from addiction; but he is no longer suffering and he’s now at peace. There are so many things I’d like to say, things I shouldn’t, things I should. But essentially, if anything, I hope to raise awareness of alcohol related harm and addiction is an illness, NOT A CHOICE! As a family, we’ve found the necessary help extremely hard to find and that’s a bitter pill to swallow. If I could go back 12 months I’d do it in a heartbeat and try even harder to get the help he so desperately needed. Unfortunately I can’t do that, so the next step is to try and help others in the same situation as my Dad, my family and I.
Rest In Peace Stevo, I love you so so much and I know I’ll see you again some day and we’re all aware how proud of us you are ❤️"
We wholeheartedly support Stevie moving forward and will never forget Stevo for his efforts on the journey we have been on together.
Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with Stevo's family and close friends at this sad time.
Once we are aware of the Funeral arrangements we will hope to update this sad news.
