Two late postponements for the hosts left them with a team and pitch available. Lee Cook, the Teversal gaffer, saw the tweet that Staveley posted looking for last minute opposition and put us forward for the game.
The early morning rain cleared up as the teams took to the pitch, not on Staveley's main pitch, but a few hundred yards down the road on the Chantry Park Playing Fields, where their youth teams play.
On a slightly smaller pitch that usual the game kicked off in glorious sunshine at two o'clock.
Being the first game for both sides, the teams took time to settle and work their way into the game with both side having chances that came to naught.
Teversal took the lead on 39 minutes when Joel Smith headed the Tevie Boys into the lead, and that was the score at the break.
Six minutes into the second half the hosts were level when a Staveley corner was blasted home through a crowd of players for the edge of the area.
0n 70 minutes the home side went into the lead. An angled shot went across the front of the keeper and nestled into the far corner. 2-1.
Staveley had the ball in the net again a few minutes later but it was ruled out for offside.
Three minutes from the end of the game, the result was sealed when a race through on goal was slotted under the keeper and into the net.
All in all, it was a good workout for both sides in the Summer sun and we wish Staveley almost the best for the coming season in the NCEL.
A steady walk up the road followed back to the changing room and into the Staveley Bar for a couple of pints before making our way home
Next for the Tevie Boys is a trip to Renishaw Rangers on Tuesday evening (9th July) with a 7.30pm kick off.
