Having not played consecutive Saturday games since the beginning of November 2024, Teversal travelled to the more fortunate Holbrook who was playing their fourth consecutive Saturday and to add all at home. So, the Tevie Boys know they would need something special to gain a result to kick start a run of results that will help with the massive challenge of survival gives.
The game started brightly in the murky damp conditions with both sides looking to get forward quickly creating an entertaining encounter. It was the host who created the first opening on 17 minutes when Dodds intercepted a pass from the Tevie back line to pick out Boyall who the set the ball former Teversal player Danny O’Donnell to fire a hard low effort that Jablonski made a great effort to save but there was just enough power to squirm under the Keeper and over the line to make it 1-0.
Teversal wasn’t affected by this set back and was given an opportunity to pull level when new signing Josh Parfitt received the ball with his back to goal and to receive a clumsy challenge of Guy that made it an easy decision for the Referee to award a spot kick. After the lengthy normal protest, Sam Jackson calmy stepped up and send Hartshorne the wrong way to level the scores at 1-1 on 21 minutes.
Both sides had chances before the break and could have had an argument to justify why they should have been in the lead. Holbrook had two goalmouth scrambles, but they were denied by some magnificent defending to block the goal bound efforts and if the efforts beat the block, Jablonski was on hand to make a save. Teversal on the other hand created, more clinical chances, the first came when Hunter and Spencer combined well down the right with the latter finding Parfitt to take a touch and shot only to be denied by an excellent block by Guy. Parfitt then became the provider to pick out Radford who had the time and space to hit a first time volley from 14 yards, but the effort disappointingly missed the target.
The second half saw the visitors kicking down the slope and taking control of the game, but it was the turn of home defence to show their qualities and stem the tide of Teversal attacks, with the centre half pairing of Guy and Stzezeski standing firm and laying the foundations for the host counterattacks, that would turn out to be productive.
Against the run of play Holbrook took the lead again on the hour mark, Dodds created the space to whip in a cross that Boyall headed goalwards which Jablonski superbly saved, but Baker was on hand to tap home. The Teversal defence were appealing for offside, which went unheard, and the goal stood.
But again, credit to the visitors for keeping positive and trying to get another equaliser, but the same credit must go to Holbrook and stuck to the task and the longer the game went on, the greater their attacking prowess on the break became a threat. It was in the 87th that a harsh look on the score line for the visitors occurred, they was hit on the break with Butcher finding Dodds to break one on one with the Tevie Keeper and finished with aplomb to put the polish on a 3-1 win that was closer than the scoreline suggest.
The loss was disappointing for Teversal, with salt rubbed into the wounds with results elsewhere seeing them drop to the foot of the table.
