If Teversal fail in their battle to survive the dreaded drop, they can do so with so much pride with the effort they have put in. Another dramatic close to the game that they did enough to win in 90 minutes but had to go through the drama of gaining the winner in the 93rd minute in the latest encounter with Bakewell Town at the Tomlin Personnel Park.
The host did start brightly and from their second corner took the lead in the 11th minute when Bamford delivered another quality corner deep into the six yard box which the Bakewell Keeper Bowering went up with a cluster of players to try and claim it, but in trying to catch it, he spilled the ball with it dropping onto Josh Radford to ricochet the ball over the line to the delight of the home side.
Bamford again was the architect from midfield to send Parfitt in behind the Bakewell defence, but with the Bowering quick of his line to close the striker down, Parfitt managed to past the Keeper but also wide of the mark. This triggered a period of the game that Bakewell started to create opportunities for themselves, and a free kick Ballington delivered a free kick from out on the Bakewell left into the Tevie penalty area that saw Radford slice his clearance with Winfield happy to see it clear the angle his bar and post. Then not long after May seized on a defensive error to drive into the penalty area, but Baines came round to sweep up and disperse the danger.
The game had now opened up with Macaskill the next with a worthwhile effort for Teversal when he turned one way and then another before firing a fierce effort that just cleared the bar. Again, Bamford provided another quality far post cross that found Parfitt whose powerful header beat Bowering but rattled the post.
Teversal were punished for the missed chances and failing to put some daylight between them and the Bakewell side that had now played themselves back into the game, which was rewarded on the 38th minute, when another quality corner was provided, this time from May providing a pinpoint corner that picked out his skipper Kelley to powerfully head home to level the score.
The scores remained level at the break, with the host the least happy as they scoreline as they chased the win. Something that was evident with Teversal coming looking for that desperate winner, but credit to Bakewell for holding firm keeping the goalscoring chances to a minimum. The flip side also made it that the home looked vulnerable to the break with Mosley, Rosling and May looking a threat with a couple of half chances going the Visitors way.
Just after the hour mark saw Hadley lost out in midfield to Johnson who released Rosling, but Winfield was quick of his line to narrow angle for the lively striker who put the effort wide of the mark, that was followed Mosley putting a half chance wide too.
The pressure was growing on Teversal to get the goal they so desperately needed, and has the game went into later stages the most have been some doubts arising, especially when Parfitt unleashed an effort from outside the 18-yard box to force an equally impressive save from Bowering. Kelley at the heart of the Bakewell defence was outstanding and it looked like he marshalled his troops to a point that would have denied Teversal their win.
But in added on time, one of those special football moments that have been rare at the Tomlin Personnel Park in recent years arrived when the host won a penalty. Dave Turner and Adam Jablonski ordered their players forward including their Keeper Oli Winfield. It was now down to Bamford to deliver the corner, which he did with slight defensive header helping the ball onto Baines who calmly controlled it on his thigh before lifting it to Hardy to head home and bringing outburst of relief and pure joy as the ball nestled in the net in the 3rd minute of added on time to claim the vital and well deserved win with the final whistle arriving seconds after the restart.
