The final league game for Teversal was to turn out to be dampener to what has been a gallant effort to save their regional feeder league status and brought their undefeated run to an end by an excellent workmanlike performance by the impressive visitors in Wirksworth Ivanhoe.

Ivanhoe had the perfect start and took an early lead in the 4th minute, with it coming from a corner that was only cleared out to the edge of the 18 yard box with Lucas Brough attacking the box to create a yard of space to clinically finish into roof of net.

Things could gone from bad to worse when Ivanhoe hit the host on the break Oli Winfield was alert to come off his line to deny Frost. Shortly after Teversal first effort of note saw Sam Jackson fire an effort that smashed against the Wirksworth bar.

The game became a little stale with Teversal probing and looking for opportunities against a well drilled Wirksworth back line, that is a great foundation for them to build on. So much so that it gave their forwards the opportunity to get in behind the home defence who had to really on Keeper Winfield who was called on to make at least three quality reaction saves to keep the home side in the game.

Dave Turner took his troops into the break looking for one final rallying call, looking for the inspiration to finish on an 8-game unbeaten run in the knowledge that the win may see them move out of the bottom three and improving their chances of surviving the dreaded drop to Division One. The Gaffers charges came out looking to achieve their objectives and made a positive start to the second period.

But it wasn’t to be as in the 52nd minute they fell further when Lucas Brough scored his and Ivanhoe’s second. Brough was afforded the time
out on the Tevie right and from a tight angle and with Winfield moving to cover a cross, and credit to the wide player he drove an inch perfect effort at the near post beating Winfield’s desperate attempt to save. The goal looked to have knocked the stuffing out of Teversal and a minute later Frost should have put game to bed when set clear by a perfectly weighted ball by Higton, by the striker fired his effort wide of the advancing Winfield and the goal.

The Tevie boys dusted themselves down and again took the initiative when a free kicked delivered by Bamford found Parfitt who powerfully headed goalwards with Conroy in the visitors beaten, but again the ball rattled the bar before dropping nicely for an Ivanhoe defender to unceremoniously clear their lines.

In the final throes of the game and the Teversal season, their effort couldn’t be faulted, and they though they had lifeline when the ball ended up in net after a scramble from a Bamford corner, but the Ref blow whistle for a push during the melee.

The final whistle brought a disappointment to the home side, who now have to wait and see what division they will be playing their football in, but they go forward in a positive mindset on the back of their recent form and something that is their to build on for the future.
